For Schools

tees valley dance also makes dance performances that are specially created for a school environment. (What we don’t do is make a piece and try and squeeze it into a school hall.) Our performances are designed for specific locations within a school, such as a classroom, outdoor playground space etc. Below are some of the performances you can book to come to your school. So why not have something a little bit different in your school and book a tees valley dance performance.

Karliboo-iky-boo

APPROPRIATE FOR 3 - 7 YEAR OLDS

Fidgety fingers and tiger toes go splashing through puddles and walk over your nose. Where they will stop? Nobody knows. What is it with these fingers? Two friends play together and discover their fingers and toes have a life of their own. They make stories together using movement, sound and words. They invite the children to play too. boo-iky-boo is a new interactive dance theatre piece from tees valley dance for young children. boo-iky-boo offers children an imaginative and physical introduction to live performance. Two dancers interact and dance with the children, and together they explore the sensorial and kinaesthetic experiences the imagination creates. The dancers’ close proximity to the audience creates a captivating setting, which supports the children’s adventures in a world of physical expression. This piece is made with and for 3 – 7 year olds. (This piece can also be performed in studio theatres, Sure Start Children’s Centres and other community spaces and although aimed at 3 – 7 year olds, babies and families are all welcome.)

Space InvadersSpace Invaders

APPROPRIATE FOR 11 - 16 YEAR OLDS

Space Invaders, Exploring the notion of regimentation in the classroom this performance was devised by the company and follows two boys who take us on a relentless physical and emotional journey in pursuit of their secret ambitions and desires.
Super-heroes and victims, comrades and enemies, boredom and hyper-activity. The classroom conquerors’ resist the authority that surrounds them and fight for supremacy on the desk-strewn battlefield. This production covers issues such as bullying, status and role playing however the aim of the performance is not to draw any conclusions about the ‘rights and wrongs’ of the dancer’s actions, instead these elements are left to an open after-show discussion in which the audience members are invited to make their own observations with the guidance of the dancers and to question the content of the piece on their own terms. Already a huge success this production has toured to numerous European Festivals. Performed in secondary school classrooms this piece is made with and for young people aged 11 – 16 years.
