tees valley dance have built a reputation for producing challenging and innovative work for children and young people and the community by devising dance works and providing innovative programmes of creative learning which are accessible, relevant and do not compromise on quality.

tees valley dance, based at Northern Lights Academy in Hartlepool, has been contributing to the cultural life of the North East of England since 1999. We are a company that brings together dancers, choreographers, visual artists, musicians, composers and arts managers from across Europe.

We forge partnerships with artists from all over the world who can make a unique contribution to the development of cutting edge dance work which pushes the boundaries of traditional perceptions of what dance is all about. Our audiences act as co-choreographers shaping our work and making it relevant to our target audience. We form creative laboratories to push innovation, experimentation and exploration in the fields of dance performance and creative learning.

The company provide an entry point into the profession for young dancers through its open company classes, graduate work placements and Dancers Network Tees Valley. We have strong links to regional universities and FE institutions such as Northumbria University,Newcastle College and Teesside University providing consultancy, residencies and guest lecturers.

We work in partnership with many different organisations to deliver our work and advise on dance and culture in the region, organisations such as Arts Award, Creative Partnerships, Local Authorities, Primary Care Trusts, Youth Dance England, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland Borough Councils.

Company Highlights

• The company have developed and launched Classroom Moves, a book and CD developed with local schools and Creative Partnerships to enable teachers to use movement in the classroom as a means of getting more physical activity in the school day and helping to create a more creative curriculum. A digital version of Classroom Moves will be launched in 2011.

• The company were awarded the national JADE fellowship by The Paul Hamlyn Foundation in 2007 to enable a dancer to train in education work.

• Recipient of Digital City Fellowship from Teesside University in 2009

• Development of specialist dance programme for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties in 2010 supported by Redcar & Cleveland Council.

tees valley dance hold auditions for dancers as and when positions arise. Audition notices will be placed on our website, posted in Juice, Article 19 and other dance related publications/ websites. Please do not send in your CV to us unless requested to do so.

tees valley dance offer unpaid work placements for dance graduates in the areas of performance and creative learning and dance management. We hold auditions for these roles. These will as above be advertised on our website and dance related publications.
